I knew as soon as the first trailer for Gatsby premiered last year that critics were going to be idiots about it. Baz recreated the story in such a way that heightens the 20s for modern viewers. It’s a cliché. To make the viewer feel hollow and wronged by that era is the entire damn point.
It’s funny to read so many reviews that criticize the film for exactly the things the warns us about.
